Interview with Bloodline from the 3D Gamestudio Forum
May 6th, 2007 | Posted in Gamedev, Interviews | Tags: forum, interviewToday i decided to make an interview with the well known, young (16 years) forum member Bloodline. Some of you may know him because he wrote some real nice tools or just because he is very active in code relevant topics. I asked him the following questions:
Hello Bloodline, please tell us more about yourself. What are you doing on a normal day. How did you come up with your nick?
Hey Ulf! I am Oliver ‘Bloodline’ Weitzel, I am 16 years old and I am a pupil. My Nick has more or less no real reason, I just wanted a nick that only I have and not 50 other people; So if you see a BL in ET, CSS, DoD or other forums, that’s me for 99%. My weekends mostly look like this: Get up, get some food, PC, food, PC, food, bed. Under the week I’m usualy away with my friends, than I’m either online after school or in the evening.
Would you be so kind and tell the readers how you stepped into game development?
My way began at the 7/X/2000 in Ravensburg (Bavaria?), as I looked with big eyes at the Sybex box of a A5 Standart. I found gamedevelopment back then as fascinating as today and bought the software directly. And although I deinstalled A5 after one week, I recovered the CD again after a half-year. I never regret it.
What of your projects make you proud?
None. I would say that I’m only now mature and skilled enaugh to really develop big projects. But I’m very proud of what I’m able to do and of my skills. And that’s much for my age.
What are you working on currently?
At the moment I work on a Autodoc Application (BL’s DocSystem) which produces documentations out of sourcecode, similar to Doxygen. I need this for my future projects.
Can you tell us more about your future plans?
Global peace. Ok, I’m just kidding.
As some of you maybe heard I don’t plan to develop games anymore, but stuff for developers. Planed or in works: A6Network - Network support for the A6, A6GFX - More power trough OGRE, A6Sound - Sound improvements with FMOD.
Is there any advice you can give “newbies”? Any good tutorials, books and so on?
There’s no recipe for success. But what I can say for sure, that nothing you do, and if it’s the next-gen MMORPG, is for nothing. Just continue fighting and if you have questions, ask. In the german text, here’s a reference to a book. But it’s in german
Whats your opinion about the Conitec 3D Engine?
Well, the engine is no holy grail, but it’s stable and easy-to-use. But I would desire Conitec to use more open source -> easy to implement and mostly much better than the current stuff.
Do you have a question you want to answer yourself?
LoL. I would like to remark that I sent the beta versions of the A6Network DLL to some persons. So keep your eyes and ears open
Thanks very much for this interview! You can check out his homepage here.
