Download tiny little sound generator for retro sound effects

December 20th, 2007 | Posted in Useful Tools | Tags: , , ,

While browsing the indiegamer forums i found a post about sfxr wich is a little tool that generates sound effects. You just select a category of sound effect like ‘laser’ or ‘powerup’ from the left hand side of the tool. Sfxr then generates a random sound effect of this type and let you play around with a lot of variations. After you’re finished you can save the resulting sound as .wav file.
I had a blast trying this tiny 48k! program, its so funny and you immediatly think you are sitting in front of your old tv-console. Download it here or browse over to the sfxr site.

Another mirror can be found here.

Indie Game Development Mega Linklist including Code, Models, Texture, Tutorials, Tools, 3DGS, A7 and Sound Ressources

May 13th, 2007 | Posted in 3DGS, Gamedev, Ressources, Useful 3DGS Tools, Useful Tools | Tags: , , ,

indie gamedev mega linklistHey there, i just decided to compile a linklist for gamedev that helps the beginner, intermediate or even pro users to find helpful ressources for independent game development. I will always try to keep this list up to date and eliminate old/outdated links. Please dont worry, that i can not include all links, i want to keep it as clean and helpful as possible without too much confusing content.
It is not meant for the 3DGS A6/A7 user exclusively, but for everyone who wants to dive into game development and gather knowledge/tools. I also list freeware/cheap tools first, because those are meant for the indies. Note that all tools, links are tested and recommended by me and not just copied from somewhere. They are meant as a basic toolset or starting point, so you cant go wrong if you learn to use and master the things listed here!

You can find this link always under the “Freebies” Section and the sidebar, be shure to bookmark it and let me know if i missed/missspelled something, as this list will constantly grow. Thanks!

Remember: Not the tools make a great game, but the one(s) behind them!

Have you been in the #3DGS (quakenet) channel already? (Tutorial included)

May 9th, 2007 | Posted in 3DGS, Gamedev, Useful Tools | Tags: ,

No? Hurry up then! You might miss something. You will find other developers there who talk about interesting things outside of the Conitec Forum.

Maybe you have a Problem with a script, or you can not finish a Skin for some Models. Or do you just want to read what others write and learn how the solve problems in their games? Sometimes you will even see screenshots earlier than they will be posted in the forums or hear news from first hand.

The only thing you need is an IRC Client, this is a program, that connects to a network where the channel is. Then you can join the channel #3DGS in the network “quakenet” and talk to the other developers.

It is important that you know, that not all inside the channel look at it all the time. Most of us just keep the irc client running in the background and look at it from time to time. Then sometime when someone writes something he might get an answer later. So please dont leave if no one responds to you instantly .- its not meant personal. ;) Just be patient and you will benefit from staying there.

You can find Tutorials how to join the chanel #3DGS in the network “quakenet” here, here or also here. Have fun and i hope to see you there too!
