3D gamestudio user wins second place at the gamesload newcomer award

December 14th, 2007 | Posted in Scene News | Tags: , ,

Congratulations to Torsten Fock for winning the second place at the german contest ‘Newcomer Award’ sponsored by gamesload. This contest was especially for new or indie game developers during the german development award (Deutscher Entwicklerpreis). He won with his game ‘Messing Moves’ a gamestudio project , where you have to load all your belongings from your house into a big truck. Its a physics game if i’m not mistaken. Its nice to see someone using the 3DGS engine finish this high with lots of competition! The other teams that won, are big teams with at least 4 members - so Torsten can now make a big relaxation holiday with his 3000€ price and have all the cool drinks for himself and his girlfriend. See the german page for more information and pictures of the winners.

Machinima Movie made with Gamestudio A6

June 19th, 2007 | Posted in 3DGS | Tags: , ,

I just discovered a link in my bookmarks. Its a little machinima movie made with A6 Gamestudio.

Machinima is some kind of movie type where the whole movie is made with a computer or computer game. In this case the game development tool 3dgs was used to make the film. Its called Taratoga and its about a little dog and a butcher, have fun watching it on the site, you dont need to download anything.

3D Gamestudio A7 Feature Table released

June 10th, 2007 | Posted in 3DGS | Tags: , ,

Just a short news today. The feature Table from A7 is now available. You can find it here:

http://www.3dgamestudio.com/order7.htm

What you can clearly see are the changes in the physics engine, now you can have unlimited rigid objects in the commercial version already instead of just one.
All in all the com version got pumped up quite a bit, i think thats good and will bring some new users to the community in the near future.

Personally iam extremely busy right now due to university exams in 3 weeks. I have to learn, learn and learn and it sucks. Thats the reason for the missing updates from the last couple of days. I hope you still stay with me. Greetings and have a nice Restweekend. (I wonder if this is a valid word in english?) ;)

Use a second uv-set on your 3DGS models .mdl to make a terrain shadow for example

June 5th, 2007 | Posted in 3DGS, Useful 3DGS Tools | Tags: , , ,

Ventilator has developed a new tool, with its help its now possible to use a second uv set for your 3dgs .mdl models. The background was to use realistic shadows on terrain. Imagine you made a nice level scene in blender and want to calculate the shadow there. Instead of backing it onto the model, wich is hard and ugly work, you just use 2 models now in conjunction with the plugin! One model holds the normal texture data and the other the shadow data.

The plugin combines both and the result could look something like that. Without nasty workarounds of cause:

plugin schatten berechnen

It is really extremely useful, especially for terrain shadows wich were hard to produce in A6 till now…

Another new version - this time A6 6.60 Beta

May 21st, 2007 | Posted in 3DGS, Scene News | Tags: , ,

Again i can tell you about an announcement about a new version. This time its the public beta from 3DGS A6 from conitec, with the versionnumer 6.60. There are a lot of improvements that can be read in the release notes. You can download this beta here at the conitec server, you of cause need a valid full version of A6 and not a pirated warez version to download. I didnt have time yet to test it, because tomorrow i have to talk about “Serious Games” in my university. I will tell you about this later, because i think its an interesting topic - especially for indie game developers! Its not about general game development, “Serious Games” are games, meant to educate people out of secondary school. Developing games in this area is not so flooded with traditional game developers, so its a good opportunity for indies in my mind, but ill discuss this later a bit more.

Latest AUM Issue 64 just got released

May 20th, 2007 | Posted in 3DGS, Gamedev, Scene News, Useful 3DGS Tools | Tags: ,

George, doesnt seem to rest during the weekend like the rest of us. No! He just released the latest AUM! This time you will for shure find useful things and code for gamedevelopment with 3DGS. For example a workshop about particles and how to set up a particle generator or spawn particles out of models. Then he updated his AI Pathfinding code and made it faster/better. Now tha paths not only look better but the algorithm behind them calculates much faster. In addition you can now place 300 nodes instead of only 100.

You also find an interview with the coder Andreas Hermanspann from Antaris a 3D Shooter he works on with A6 on his own. The usual frequently asked questions from the forums get answered too, so you can grab some hints from a pro. Have fun with it in your garden on a sunny sundayafternoon.
